Where to start? After being so terrified and out of control during my first labour - I decided it was time to take control and try to be present for the second one.
Giving birth the first time took me in a direction that few people experience in such a dreaded violent way. Total and utter lack of control, dreaded fear to the point that had there had been a way of not going through with the birth of my son - I would have taken it. Dreadful. I’m normally a dedicated and calm person. I’m in control and can rationalise most things but wow, my first birth experience was horrendous. It took me to a very dark place.
BUT As soon as the baby was out, I was normal again and back in the room, kissing and crying with love for my baby. As if nothing had happened. However, for the next three years I wouldn’t watch, listen to or talk about going into labour of any kind. I didn’t realise that a. I was avoiding it (what goes on in fight club, stays in fight club...) and b. my avoidance was due to PTSD. That was until I fell pregnant the second time and decided on using Jess.
It was so obvious with Jess’s guidance that I had PTSD within moments of our first meeting. Throughout the sessions I was all over the place crying, grieving, challenging, doubting, fearful, tearful, you name it - I was it. But I took on all her suggestions and even when I thought I hadn’t - I did. The day came to give birth. I did it. I did it whilst staying focused and present. Cool, calm and collected. I did it and do you know what? I absolutely could do it again.
Jess is absolutely amazing. She guides you into yourself and makes you find yourself. You already have all the skills you need - Jess just helps you collect them up put them in the right bag and shows you where to collect it before the big moment. Hypnobirthing with Jess is that overnight bag you pack and leave at the front door ready for the off. Organised, prepared, ready. She has an amazing way of cutting through your fears and any in my case utter crap. She understands very quickly how to work with you. She is like a Mother Earth mind doctor. She gets you before you get yourself. She’s so wise beyond her years. She’s incredibly trusting of you and fully supportive of your needs .
My sessions were bespoke to me and that’s exactly what you need - a bespoke tailor made pathway. In fact, you end up almost designing what you need together. Jess listens and keeps the focus and guides you through your journey. She’s always on call for you and becomes more than a hypnotherapist. She becomes your trusted friend. She is known as the mind doctor in our house! Look no further for a trusted expert in this field. Your labour and you are worth it.
I think Sophie’s sister sent you a quick message saying that baby Reuben was born earlier this week. We’ve now settled down a bit so we thought we’d drop you a message and say thank you for all the techniques and hypnobirthing knowledge you passed on to us! We were both feeling positive about using it, but to see and experience it in action was quite something.
Soph did a 31 hour labour with nothing but a tens machine, a few paracetamol, water and Ribena and a single polo mint - absolutely no other painkillers or any anaesthetics - thanks to the techniques you taught us. She was an absolute natural at it all! I’ve never been so proud of her (until she gave birth to Reuben!) the midwives were very pleased with how everything went. Textbook!
As for me, I got so much confidence and calmness from everything you taught me. I can’t imagine how panicked or lost I would have been throughout the process had we not had your sessions. There was a point where the midwives were really wanting to take soph into hospital due to high blood pressure. But they were not too pushy and I questioned them on why it was needed and could we try and keep her at home. So I asked myself what would be the right thing to do and felt for the lightness or heaviness you instinctively feel when given options. Staying at home felt lighter, so we stayed and slowly brought Sophie’s blood pressure down with fluid.
The other major plus from what we learnt were the visualisations we used in pain and anxiety relief. With every surge I calmly described for soph how all the purple tension was slowly draining/blowing/ hoovering/ being squished/ being torn up and being replaced with golden refreshing liquid calm (or armour at one point!). Soph found it so useful and calming, and I could see the difference in her as I visualised the tension and pain away. At one point I almost could see her breathing out purple breath, I must have been delirious with tiredness but also self hypnotised from what I was saying to her!
We didn’t use everything in the toolbox, but what we did use was worth every penny and every session. Baby Reuben came out so calm and without stress and Sophie needed no stitches afterwards.
Thank you once again, we both feel confident looking after him and we both love having him finally in our arms!
