My Beautiful Birth
THE FULL STORY
Until the birth of my daughter, in 2015, I was a secondary school English teacher and regional programme director for First Story; a national creative writing charity. I was independent, driven and a manager. I was also terrified of birth and parenthood. I had 'put it off' until my late 30s, and yet still worried that I would never get my career back.
Ironically, I never did get my career back, well, not that one at any rate! What I did get was a sense of completion and self-acceptance that I hadn't known in my life before. I used hypnobirthing to birth my daughter and can actually say that I really ENJOYED the experience!
But how does my experience inform what I want to offer you? Firstly, I want you to be able to enjoy that same positivity and sense of pride and achievement in your birth as I did in mine- even if you're nervous, anxious, or not had the best experience in the past. I've specifically designed this course to address any fears and worries so you can get on with enjoying your pregnancy, knowing you can do this.
After the amazing birth, it's easy to feel lost- families are our lifeblood but even at the best of times they can actually be hard work, or sometimes they just can't be there- my mum was working down south when my daughter was born and, with the best will in the world, grandparents just can't be there sometimes. I absolutely want you to feel supported and full of confidence in the first three months of your baby's appearance in your family, so there are specific recordings to help you adjust and relax, and also to breastfeed with ease (if that's what you've decided to do). I'm also only at the other end of the phone or on messenger if you need any advice: I'm specially trained in post-natal support. I trained in this when my daughter was still breastfeeding because I wanted to make sure other women had access to loads of emotional support as and when they need it during the fourth trimester.
My husband was really nervous about the birth and we actually had my friend there too so we both felt supported. Because of this I'm passionate about involving birth partners and encouraging them to speak their minds in class. I know what an amazing birth experience is possible if you're completely honest with each other and plan this birth TOGETHER. I've developed specific techniques to support you to do that.
I hope my passion for giving you the most beautiful birth and pregnancy ever shines through. I really care about you and your journey and want to be there for you every step of the way.
